Introduction to a Future Advertiser

Hello everyone! My name is Nicholas Kutcher, I am from Frisco, Texas, and  I will be graduating from the University of Oklahoma this spring. I am an Advertising major, and the coolest thing about my major is I get to advertise for local businesses, hoping to get their name out to the public. I think this is interesting because if there was no advertising, it would be harder for business owners to promote their own businesses. One of the best classes I took last semester was Advertising media. Although it was a tough class, I got to work in a group to come up with a campaign idea for a business. I enjoyed it because it was something I could learn from in the real world when I graduate. My favorite movies are Step Brothers, and Old school because they make me crack up every single time I watch them. One of my many dreams down the road is to advertise for any NFL team since I am a huge football fan. Since I live only 20 miles from Dallas, It would be cool to be able to partner with the Dallas Cowboys, and be able to share some of my advertising ideas. I have many favorite foods, but some of my favorites are hibachi chicken, steak, and fried rice. I also do enjoy cooking, but I wouldn't say i'm a wonderful cook just yet. I do enjoy grilling though, and can make a delicious grilled salmon. Some of my hobbies are watching/playing football, hanging out with my friends, (after my homework is done of course) and traveling. I have always wanted to go to Greece, but I will need to save up a lot to make it happen. If I had an extra day for fun, I would want to go somewhere that is hot because I cannot stand the cold.

  1. Hi!
I am from Plano, TX and went to high school in Frisco. What a small world! Although I know nothing about advertising, your career goals sound really interesting and I hope that you do get to work with NFL someday. I am not great at cooking either, but I do love all of the foods you mentioned and I really love salmon as well! I also love hanging out with my friends when my homework is done! I hope to travel the world someday and Santorini, Greece is at the top of that list. I love that picture of you and your brother!

  2. Hi Nicholas! I found it so interesting reading what you said about advertising! Sounds like something so fun, getting to help businesses advertise. I also enjoy cooking as well! it's something I recently started getting into and I am honestly loving it, especially the grilled salmon. I hope one day to go to Greece too. I think Greece is such a beautiful place; it's definitely on the bucket list.

  3. That advertising media class is such a perfect prelude for this class, Nicholas! Maybe you will want to do your class project as something like an advertising campaign, blending the storytelling that goes with advertising and the storytelling that is part of the Indian tradition. I have to share a fabulous real-world example of that: it's an amazing PSA for helmets in India (where head injuries from crashes are a huge problem)... here's the ad: What Gods wear before they ride ... it's based on the fundamental idea in Indian mythology that each god has a vahana, a vehicle, that is distinctively theirs, and they ride those vehicles..... with helmets! More about the vanahas at Wikipedia: Vahanas. Maybe you can think of a public service campaign related to the environment or public health or personal well-being, etc. that is inspired by stories from India... because where there are stories, there are messages... and where there are messages, there can be a campaign of course!

  4. Hey Nicholas! I'm a fellow soon-to-be Gaylord graduate! I have a major in journalism and a minor in anthropology. I love that you have such big goals for your life in advertising, and I sincerely hope you reach them someday :) my dad and brother are huge Cowboys fans! Also, I agree, Greece is on my list of places to travel one day! Good luck with your last semester!

  5. Hi Nicholas, congratulations on making it to graduation! I work at Gaylord in the Creative Lab and used to be a CMP student. I think advertising is a very important and sought after career. I also think your dream of working with the Dallas Cowboys is really awesome! They are probably my favorite pro team and have been since high school. Cooking is really fun, but it definitely takes practice. I have tried to make so many things only for them to turn out weird in one way or another, but part of the fun is trying again!

  6. Hi Nicholas, I too am graduating in May and am very excited to see where the next steps lead me. One of my favorite movies would have to be Step Brothers as well. It is so funny and a movie that you can watch a thousand times over. Cooking has been a new hobby I took up when quarantine started and it has been fun finding new recipes to try out.

  7. Hi Nicholas! That is so exciting that you are graduating in May! That is a very exciting time in your life! Advertising seems like a very interesting major. That is awesome that you get to advertise for local businesses. Step Brothers is one of my favorite movies too. It never fails to make me laugh. Greece seems like a really cool place to visit!

  8. Hey Nicholas!

I bet you are pretty excited to be done with school. I can only imagine how fast it must have gone. That would be really cool to partner with the Dallas Cowboys. I have always wanted to visit Greece as well. I have never seen Step Brothers, so I will give it a try. Seeing the Parthenon in Greece has always been a dream of mine. It is ironic that today, we are in the midst of a snowstorm across the state but are not able to go anywhere.

  9. Hello Nicholas! I too, am from the Dallas-Fort Worth area. I'm from the west side of Fort Worth, not too far from you. I would be interested to hear what you have to say about being an advertising major, it sounds very rewarding and interesting. It would be totally awesome if you got to work for the Cowboys, I wish you the best of luck!

  10. Hi Nicholas. Step brothers is a great movie. That is definitely one of my favorite movies as well. I am also a big fan of The Other Guys. I am also a big football fan with my favorite team being the Minnesota Vikings. I had a good time reading your introduction and I wish you the best with your advertising career.

  11. Hi Nicholas! I've actually been to Greece for a few days before, but the time I spent there was great! The food is amazing, and if you're into ancient architecture, it's pretty cool to see old monuments still standing today. The cities themselves are not the greatest part of the trip, as most of the streets are fairly filthy, but it's definitely an experience worth having.

  12. Hi Nicholas! I hope your senior semester is going well. I think it’s awesome that you’re interested in advertising for an NFL team. I love football, and I see how much work the advertising and public relations staffs do to get attention for their teams. I hope you find a way in one day! I also love hibachi foods. I personally think I make really great fried rice. (The secret is butter!) I hope you get to go to Greece someday! It looks like such a beautiful place.

  13. Hello,

Firstly, congrats on your upcoming graduation! You did it! Secondly, advertising sounds fun as I ran a business in my high school and so it can be really fun if you are creative with it. As someone going into healthcare I loved reading about your future goals, it was really refreshing. I wish you the best of luck in the future and it was great meeting you.

  14. Hey Nicholas, congratulations on your upcoming graduation! I'm sure it's very exciting, and advertising sounds like a cool career path where you can really flex some creative muscles. Greece (and Europe in general) seem like they'd be awesome places to visit for a few weeks/months once we're able to travel freely again. Everyone I've met who did a backpacking/biking trip loved it. Best of luck with the spring semester!

  15. Hi Nicholas! Since you have a lot of experience in advertising, I was wondering what your thoughts were about targeted ads on smartphones, social media, the Internet, etc. A lot of people view these ads as an invasion of privacy (ex: if companies are listening to the microphones on our electronics), so I wanted to hear your expertise. I am from the DFW area as well, but I have never been a Cowboys fan...they've just been too bad for too long:(

  16. Hello Nicholas!
I also would spend a free day anywhere that is warm because I HATE the cold! I am so ready for summer to come this year, especially after that ice storm last month! Also congratulations on graduating this spring! I hope that everything goes well and you are able to advertise for the NFL someday!

  17. Hey Nicholas!

Congrats on your upcoming graduation! I nearly decided to major in advertising but ultimately ended up doing economics. I'm also a huge football fan and working for an NFL team would be so cool. I grew up in San Antonio and I totally understand what you mean about the cold, this last snowstorm had me missing warmer temps. Good luck on the rest of your semester!
